Samsung adds to the swarming market of netbooks a simple, non-flashy mini laptop with a 10.2-inch wide-screen display. The Samsung NC10 Netbook has been a very popular model for quite a long time now in the ever-saturated netbook market. The begging question must be - What is Samsung bringing to the market that is not already there? Here is a short review of the latest additions of the NC10 Netbook.

The Samsung NC10 at the time of writing costs around $400 each. It measures at 10.3 x 7.3 x 1.2 inches and weighs a mere 2.9 pounds. Its small size and excellent battery life makes it really portable. When it comes to specs the NC10 has those of a mid-level netbook range; a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, Windows XP operating system and a 160GB hard drive (5400rpm).

The most outstanding feature of the Samsung NC10 Netbook is its keyboard. All the keys are in the right places and because they are so well spaced, you get ample room to work on. One of the best-selling features of this model will have to be its glossy blue casing. Although other netbook brands do have blue-colored models, there is something irresistible about the Samsung netbook's design. The battery life for the NC10 is a decent 4 hours (approximately) and that just puts the Samsung NC10 Netbook quite ahead of so many other netbooks. Thus far, its battery life is only rivaled by Asus Eee netbooks. All in all, if you are looking for a stylish and reliable mini laptop, the NC10 will make a good purchase.

Netbook Riview: Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch Netbook

Specifications: The Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch netbook is Samsung's second generation of netbooks. Personally I think the Samsung is slowly trying to compete with Sony's niche by producing a wide range of beautifully designed electronic devices. The specs of this new model are similar to many other netbooks in the market. It is powered by Intel's Atom N270 processor (1.6GHz), has a spacious 160GB hard drive and runs on 1GB of RAM. It uses Windows XP and has a 6-cell battery pack.

Design: The design of the new Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch netbook alone is a good enough reason for me to get one of these for myself. It sports a new matte casing, which looks really good and is not prone to fingerprints like the older models. It has very rounded curves and looks very good from almost any angle. The new LCD screen has a glossy screen and the size of the track pad have also been increased. Besides the LCD screen are two speakers and there is also a tiny sub-woofer located below the netbook. The size of the keyboard is also larger than its predecessors.

Features & Performance: Performance wise, the Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch netbook works pretty well, on par with other popular netbooks in the market (such as the Asus Eee and Acer Aspire One). This model has two major selling points that are guaranteed to make it a hot-selling netbook in the market. First of all, the keyboard is one of the biggest found on any netbooks. It is 97% the size of a full size keyboard and provides one of the best typing experience compared to other netbooks models. It also has a SRS 2.1 channel speaker system that produces great audio (probably the best in the market for a netbook). The 6-cell battery can last up to 5 hours of use on a single charge.

Overall:To sum it up, the new Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch netbook sports 3 major upgrades (a larger keyboard, an improved sound system and better aesthetics). The price of this model is (at the time of writing) around $410 each, which is a little more expensive than other similar models in the market. For me, I think that the new features and improvements found on the new Samsung N120-12GBK 10.1-Inch netbook is worth every penny!

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Netbook Vs Samsung NC10-14GBK Netbook

These two models are some of the best and most advanced netbooks in the market. They are both very similar in terms of specs and pricing, but there are some features that set them apart from each other. Here is a quick comparison between the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch netbook and the Samsung NC10-14GBK 10.2-Inch netbook.

Price: The Asus model costs around $380 while the Samsung netbook will set you back around $410. Although the price difference is minimal, the price conscious may find this to be a determining factor in choosing between the two.

Winner: The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch netbook.

Design: The Asus netbook sports a sturdy and practical design. It has a semi-glossy exterior and stand-alone keyboard buttons (like Apple keyboards) that looks pretty good. The Samsung model on the other hand has a high glass exterior with the Samsung logo embossed in shiny silver fonts in the middle. Although they are roughly of the same size, the NC10 looks smaller due to its sleeker design.

Winner: The Samsung NC10-14GBK 10.2-Inch netbook.

Specs: The Samsung netbook is powered by a 1.6GHZ processor while the Eee is powered by a slightly faster 1.66GHZ processor. Both models runs on 1GB of RAM that is upgradeable to 2GB. They also have a 160GB hard drive, but the Eee comes with an additional 10GB of online storage. The Asus has an LED backlight screen while the NC10 as a regular LCD screen.

Winner: The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch netbook.

Battery Life: Asus has gone to great lengths to extend the battery life of its netbooks. Thanks to its Super Hybrid Engine technology and the energy efficient LED screen, the Asus Eee netbook can last up to 9 hours on a single charge (on power saving mode). The Samsung NC10 is also pretty impressive with over 8 hours of use on a single charge.

Winner: The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch netbook (this is a close one).

Considering that both models have very similar features, there are very little reasons to justify spending the extra $30 on the Samsung NC10 (unless you just love the design). Although Asus is a relatively small company compared to Samsung, Asus is after all, the pioneer when it comes to netbooks.
